57 defence personnel missing in wars lodged in Pak jails: Govt

As many as 57 defence personnel, who are listed as having gone missing during the Indo-Pak Wars of 1965 and 1971, are believed to be languishing in Pakistani jails, the defence ministry has stated.

Of these, 12 are said to be from the two states of Punjab and Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

While Punjab was home to six of the missing personnel, five belonged to Haryana with the remaining one hailing from Chandigarh.

The above information was provided by defence ministry to a city-based advocate in its reply to a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
 

The defence ministry said that of the 12, two were missing since 1965 while the remaining 10 went missing in 1971.

While VK Azad and Sujan Singh are missing since 1965, SPS Waraich, Pal Singh, Jagir Singh, Gurdev Singh Rai, all belonging to Punjab, are missing since 1971.

GR Singh, AK Suri, OP Dalal, Dilar Singh and Balbir Singh from Haryana and Jatinder Dass Kumar from Chandigarh are missing since 1971.
