A 59-year-old man was today arrested by the customs for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold worth about Rs 33 lakh at Delhi airport.
The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Muscat here.
"A detailed personal search of the passenger resulted in recovery of two gold wires total weighing 1.17 kg. The gold wires were coated with silver colour and were concealed beneath the inside metal frame of the check-in baggage," a press release issued by the customs said.

In another case, the customs officials have seized about 620 gms of gold worth around Rs 16 lakh. The accused, who had followed the similar modus to smuggle gold, in this case was intercepted after his arrival from Jeddah.
The customs officials have registered four cases of gold smuggling in past few days and seized yellow metal worth over a crore.
