A 6.2 magnitude quake shook northern Chile and Argentina today, but there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 1646 IST in Argentina, 46 kilometres northwest of San Antonio de los Cobres in an area near the border with Chile.
Chile's National Emergency Centre said the quake occurred at a depth of 257 kilometres, resulting in an event of "minor intensity."
It posed no threat of a tsunami, the Chilean agency said.
