6 cases of cops disappearing with guns in J-K since 2013: Govt

Six cases have been registered against police personnel in Jammu and Kashmir who disappeared with their arms and ammunition since 2013.

Giving these details in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said one case was registered on May 14, 2013 against SPO Pratap Singh who disappeared along with an INSAS rifle, 20 cartridges and one magazine.

"On August 14, 2014, SPO Mohammad Shafi Dar disappeared along with one AK 47 rifle, three magazines, and 90 rounds... the said SPO was arrested on September 29, 2014. On September 8, 2015, two SPOs namely Gul Mohammad Mangnoo and Riyaz Ahmad disappeared along with arms and ammunition... Both the SPOs were killed on October 15, 2015," he said.
 

The minister said on March 27, 2015, Constable Naseer Ahmad Pandith disappeared with two AK-47 rifles, three magazines and 90 rounds while on January 12 this year, Constable Shakoor Ahmad disappeared with four AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines and 390 rounds.

Chaudhary said Ahmad has been dismissed from service and three of the four AK-47 rifles have been recovered.

"On February 5, 2016, follower Reyaz Ahmad disappeared along with one AK-56 rifle and 30 rounds... The said follower has been arrested on February 10, 2016 along with arms and ammunition," he said.
