Six children, who were allegedly being trafficked to Gujarat to work there as labourers, have been rescued by Udaipur police with the help of an NGO.

The children, aged between 12 and 16, were rescued yesterday when they were being taken to Gujarat to work there, Additional SP Udaipur (Rural) Sudhir Joshi said today.

Madhav Ram, who was accompanying the children, was arrested and is being interrogated, Joshi said.

Coordinator of NGO ChildFund India's special anti- trafficking project in the city, Joseph Mathew said he noticed Ram boarding the bus with the children in Udaipur last evening.

"I could sense that there was something wrong with that man and his activities and alerted the police. The children were then rescued by the police," Mathew said.

The children were presented before the Child Welfare Committee and sent to a shelter last night.
