Nepal Police today arrested six Chinese nationals for carrying foreign currencies in excess of the permissible limit and seized the money worth 47 million rupees from a highway entry point to the Kathmandu Valley.
The Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) arrested the Chinese nationals with USD 4.9 million; 14,400 Chinese Yuan; 3.1 million Japanese Yen; 2,200 Swiss Franc; 1,400 Australian dollar; 1,100 Pound Sterling; and 24,600 Nepali rupees from their possession.
According to Superintendent of Police Prakash Jung Karki, the Chinese nationals were arrested from a vehicle while they were heading to Tibet.
Police have not disclosed the identities of those arrested.
