Justice V K Shali was returning to Madurai in a car after a pilgrimage trip to this island when the escort vehicle in which six police personnel were travelling collided with a van.
The six police personnel and the van driver were injured and had been hospitalised, police said.
Another escort team was arranged to allow the judge to continue his journey.
