Six police personnel have been transferred for allegedly refusing to accept the request of a man to hospitalise his ailing wife, who later died, police said here today.

Those transferred to the Armed Reserve Police include a Traffic Inspector and Special Sub-Inspector, they said.

The incident occurred on Saturday night when the man from Kalingiyam village near Gobichettipalayam was taking his ailing wife to hospital on a two-wheeler.

The man complained that his pleas to the traffic police to allow him to take his ailing wife to hospital fell on deaf ears and delay in taking her for treatment led to her death.

He alleged that the traffic police insisted that he first produce relevant documents before taking his wife to hospital.

The delay led to the death of his wife soon after she was admitted to the government hospital that night, he alleged.

Protesting against the 'inhuman' attitude of the police, the man and his relatives blocked vehicular traffic yesterday.

Superintendent of Police M R Sibi Chakravarthy conducted an enquiry into the incident with Special Branch CID Police and ordered immediate transfer of six police personnel to the Armed Reserve Police, they said.
