Six people died after their car plunged into a canal connected to Kolar Dam in Madhya Pradesh's Sehore district, police said today.
Akash Gupta along with his friends, Pankaj Sahu (25), Ranjeet Sahu (25), Abhijeet Rathore (25), Gaurav Sahu (22) and Rajnish Patel (29) had gone to celebrate his birthday in the vicinity of Kolar Dam when the accident happened last night, Sehore Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) O P Tripathi told PTI.
The car, possibly, failed to negotiate a turn on the service road leading to the dam and plunged straight into the canal that was about 25-30 feet deep and 10-15 metres wide, he added.
The incident came to light after relatives mounted a search for the six in the morning today, the official said.
Police have managed to pull out the car and retrieve the bodies which have been sent for post mortem, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandel said.
