Six men were arrested here allegedly with illicit liquor during a special drive ahead of Holi, police said today.

In the first incident, Satish (38) and Sanjay (28) were apprehended from near Alipur yesterday allegedly with 89 cartons of illicit liquor.

"They used to procure illicit liquor from Haryana and used to sell it in Delhi. They were directed by one receiver Ramesh to deliver illicit liquor for distribution in slum clusters of Alipur and Samaipur-Badli," Ravindra Yadav, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), said.

By supplying the illicit liquor from other states, the government suffers a loss of 200 per cent on the manufacturing cost of illicit liquor which includes Sales Tax and Excise Duties etc. Thus, bootleggers earn more than 100 per cent profit by supplying the illicit liquor from one state to another.

Satish was found to be involved in previous eight cases of Excise and vehicle thefts in the capital.

In another case, four men were arrested yesterday between Kalkaji Depot and Govind Puri Metro Station allegedly with 54 cartons of illicit liquor.

The arrested have been identified as Surender Kumar, Ravi Singh, Ajay and Dheeraj Kumar, Ajay Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner of Police (South East), said.

"The recovered illicit liquor was to be supplied to the local bootleggers in Delhi and NCR in the coming dry days especially on Holi and Good Friday," he said.
