6 killed, 10 injured in two road mishaps

Six persons were killed and ten others injured in two different road accidents in Tamil Nadu today, police said.

Three persons, including two children, were killed on the spot when a speeding state-owned transport corporation bus and a lorry collided at Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar District while three others died in a van-car collision i Erode District, they said.

The deceased in the bus-lorry colision were identified as Ganga (12), Sanjay (8) and Thambi (70).

Heart rending scenes were witnessed as the mother of the Sanjay, who has already lost his father, was inconsolable.

The boy, whose birthday is falling in a couple of days, had asked for a big cake for the occasion, Vijayalakshmi said while crying.
 

Seven persons were seriously injured in the accident and they had been hospitalised.

Bus driver S.Manikandan had been arrested, police said.

In the other mishap, 67-year old Sunaidheen of Coimbatore and his wife, on their way to Gobichettipalayam, died on the spot when their van and a car collided near Nambiyur Thaneerpandalpalayam.

The van driver succumbed to injuries at a government hospital shortly after admission, police said.

Three occupants of the car were injured and had been admitted to the Government Hospital in Gobichettipalayam, police said.
