6 killed, 2 hurt in car-truck collision

Six persons, including two policemen, were killed and two others seriously injured when a car collided with a speeding truck on Pune highway here, police said today.

The accident took place near Rahimpur village late last night when the truck hit the car, which was heading towards Aurangabad, from behind. As a result, the car jumped the divider and came on the other side of the road where it again collided with an SUV coming from the opposite direction, they said.

Five of the deceased were identified as Ashok P Thorat (45), Bhagwan B Dudhe (43) (both policemen), Syed Maheboob Ismail (34), Shaikh Mohsin Musa (30) and Shaikh Majid Raheman (45).
 

The policemen who died in the accident were attached to Gangapur police station and were on their way to Aurangabad to join duty following transfer, police said.

SP Navinchandra Reddy and his team rushed to the spot

Further probe was on, police added.
