6 killed, 5 injured in house collapse

Six persons were killed and five others injured when their house collapsed in the wee hours today at Kannod, about 120 km from here, police said.

Babu Khan (70) and all his family members were buried under the debris while asleep in their house, which was reportedly constructed around 20 years ago, police said.

Salma (32), Afreen (16), Fareen (18) and Asif (14) died on the spot. Seven injured were taken to a hospital and four of them were referred to Indore for treatment, they said.

Babu and Rukaiyya Bi (60) passed away during treatment, while the condition of his son Mubarik and his wife was said to be critical.
 

Collector Mahesh Agarwal, who visited the site, later announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1.5 lakh each to the next kin of the deceased and Rs 45,000 each for the injured.
