A sea of pilgrims paid their obeisance to Goverdhan today, after completing a 23-km 'parikrama' around the Goverdhan Hill.

Temple bodies estimate that over 6 lakh pilgrims participated in the two-day 'parikrama'.

Hundreds of foreign pilgrims, carrying baskets on their heads, were part of the procession from Gaudiya Math to the Har Gokul temple.

"They bathed Goverdhan with five ingredients-- curd, honey, khandsari, ghee and milk-- amid chanting of Vedic hymns," noted saint Purandar Prabhu said.

Offerings were also made at the Daan Ghati mandir, Mukharbind Temple at Jatipura and Mukut Mukharbind temple at Manasi Ganga.

A procession of over 200 pilgrims under the banners Krishna Leela Mahotsava Samiti and Das Bisa Brahmanan paid their obeisance at Manasi Ganga temple.

ISKCON also celebrated Goverdhan Puja.

"Five cows were brought near the deity and the 'prasadam' was distributed amongst hundreds of devotees," Shubha Krishna Das, Goushala in-charge at ISKCON, said.

"No untoward incident took place," said ADM A K Awasthi, adding security had been heightened for the occasion.
