In a major anti-Naxal operation conducted along the Andhra-Chhattisgarh border, the CRPF today apprehended six suspected Naxals and seized over 1,000 booby traps and shrapnel aimed to ambush security forces.

Sources said the operation was conducted along the Cherla-Kistarm area in the bordering Khammam district along the dense forests of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

"One alleged Naxalite has been killed in the operation while six others have been apprehended," a senior official said.

A joint operation by involving a strong squad of close to 300 troops was launched in this axis by the CRPF, the special counter-Naxal force of AP 'Greyhounds' and state police forces of both the states early today.

A total of 180 booby traps and 855 iron spikes have been seized from the Naxalite hideout, the official said, adding that a search operation is currently underway in the area to look for more ultras.

The location where the operation was conducted today is notorious for the movement of armed Maoist cadres and the polls here are scheduled on April 10 and during some later phases.
