6 of interstate carjackers' gang arrested in Delhi

Six members of a gang of interstate carjackers were arrested with firearms and a stolen car in Govind Puri area of South East Delhi, police said today.

Following a tip-off, a team of special staff cops laid a trap near Govind Puri metro station and caught the six criminals, said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, DCP of South-East district police.

The accused persons have been identified as Sombir, Suraj Surender, Manish, Sonu, Dahiya and Virender, all hailing from Haryana.

One sophisticated pistol and a country made pistol were seized from their possession besides a car which they looted in Rajasthan, he said.
 

On sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that they had come to Govind Puri area for lifting vehicles. They accepted committing a series of car thefts in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.

They are wanted in several offences and arrest warrants from various courts have been issued against them as they are parole and bail jumpers in cases of murder where they have been convicted, added the DCP.
