"We are examining the proposals submitted by the private parties and the two PSUs - MCL and NTPC," state health minister Prasanna Acharya told reporters.

While MCL has assured the state government that it would set up a medical college and hospital in Angul district, NTPC's proposal is to establish similar facility in Sundergarh district, the minister said.

The private companies which have expressed interest to set up hospitals or medical colleges include Jindal Steel and Power Limited which wants to make a hospital and a nursing school at Deojhar in Keonjhar district.

Essel Mining and Industrial Limited also wants to set up a 120 bed multi-speciality hospital at Sundara near Barbil in Keonjhar district while Manipal Education Trust plans to set up a 500 bedded hospital at Bhubaneswar.

Chennai-based Shankar Eye Hospital and Hyderabad's Nova Helath System also want to set up units in Odisha.

"As some of the private parties seek the state government's assistance and land, we have to consider their proposal before giving the final nod," Acharya said.

On AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, which plans to start academic session with 50 students from September 30, the minister said the institute would be governed under the AIIMS Act.

"As amendment of the Act requires time, the institutions can be run by issuing ordinance," he said.
