A six-storey building in south Delhi's Munirka area tilted on Thursday, triggering a panic among its residents and those living nearby, officials said.

A total of 45 tenants of the building and around 100 people residing nearby were evacuated after police were informed about the incident at 5.30 am, they said.

Teams of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with the Sub Divisional Magistrate, are at the spot, the police said.

The building is situated in front of the Jawaharlal Nehru University's north gate, they said.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) welcomed the stranded residents to stay in its office until an alternative accommodation was arranged.

It also demanded that the Delhi government provide temporary shelter and compensation to them.
