Six tribal women were killed and 31 others injured tonight when a truck carrying a marriage party overturned while negotiating a turn in Samnapur police station area here.

The truck was carrying 40 people of a marriage party from Bhusanda area to Sighanpuri village in the district, Superintendent of Police Simala Prasad told PTI.

The accident took place between Bamni and Singhanpuri villages, about 40 km from the district headquarters, she said.

Nandini (15), Omvati, Shyamkali, Sunita, Ramkali and Dheeranvati, all five in their 30s, were killed in the accident, Prasad said, adding 31 injured have been admitted to a hospital.

A hunt has been launched to arrest the driver of the truck who fled from the spot.

Initial investigations suggest that the truck was being rashly driven, the SP added.
