A total of 60 universities from several provinces and municipalities of China would hold the first education expo in the city from May 10 to May 11.

The expo would be held against the backdrop of China deciding to open up more to other countries, both in the fields of education and business exchanges, consul general of PRC in Kolkata, Ma Zhanwu said.

He said the event would take place following the successful meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese Premier Xi Jingping at Wuhan recently.

The list includes renowned universities like Nanjing University, Northwest University and Northeast Normal University, among others.

Zhanwu said Indian students seeking admission in these universities would be able to chose from 100 major subjects.

On bilateral business ties, he said exchanges would increase after the construction of the BCIM economic corridor is complete.

Asked about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's visit to China, Zhanwu said the details were being worked out.
