Delhi Traffic Police challaned nearly 1000 motorists for violating traffic rules out of which 608 were prosecuted for drunken driving on the eve of New Year last night while one person was killed in an accident.
"Traffic Police had deployed 86 teams, armed with breath analyzers, to check drunken driving. However, no case of stunt biking was noticed in the city last night," said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.
Special pickets were also set-up to check stunts on motorcycles, over speed, reckless, zig-zag and dangerous driving in co-ordination with local police and PCR at Mehrauli, Saket, Vasant Vihar, South-Extn., Rajouri Garden, Pitampura, Laxmi Nagar and Mayur Vihar.

"This year on New Year Eve, a total of 608 motorists were prosecuted for drunken driving, while 532 motorists were prosecuted in 2014, 489 in 2013, 418 in 2012 and 346 in 2011," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Anil Shukla.
While there were 7 deaths reported in fatal road accidents on New Year Eve of 2010, 5 deaths respectively in 2011 and 2012. No fatal accidents occurred on the eve of 2013. In 2014, 3 deaths reported. Only 1 person died on New Year Eve of 2015, said Shukla.
This was made possible only due to the elaborate traffic arrangements laid out in the city to check the incidence of dangerous driving, rash & negligent driving and drunken driving, he added.
Delhi Traffic Police had made elaborate traffic arrangements for smooth conduct and regulation of traffic on the eve of New Year, throughout the city.
Special arrangements were made for the areas in vicinity of Connaught Place, Saket, M-Block Market Greater Kailash, Chirag Delhi, New Friends Colony, Defence Colony, South-Extn, Mehrauli, Aya Nagar Border, Khan Pur, Nehru Place near Eros Hotel, Near Govind Puri Metro Station, Vasant Vihar, Vasant Kunj, Kapashera, Dwarka, Rajouri Garden, Netaji Subash Place, Rohini, Pitampura, Ashok Vihar, G.T. Karnal Road, Karkardooma, Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar and Mayur Vihar Phase-II.
