61-year-old man remanded to custody for alleged Maoist links

A local court here today remanded a 61-year-old man to one-month judicial custody for alleged links with Maoists.

District Sessions Court Judge, K Baskaran, remanded Babu, alias Njandu Ibrahim, of Meppadi in Wayanad district who has been charged under IPC section 124A (sedition) and sections 10 and 13 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

He was picked up from the city by police yesterday in connection with a case registered at Payyoli police station.

Babu, who had been acting as a courier among the top Maoist leaders in the state, was working as a salesman in a vegetable shop at Thikkodi in the district prior to his arrest, police said.
