63-year-old woman run over by car

A 63-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car while disposing off garbage in southeast Delhi's Kalkaji area, police said today.

The accused car driver escaped from Safdarjung hospital where he took the injured woman for treatment, said a police officer.

The victim Harnandi lived with her son Amarchand at Sarvodaya Camp in Kalkaji. She had gone to dispose off domestic garbage around 9 am when she was hit by the car driven by the accused identified as Pawan Sharma.

Police said that Sharma was checking his vehicle after a puncture repair and sped up hitting the old woman and injuring her grievously. Later, she was taken to the Safdarjung hospital by locals in the car of the accused.
 

After Harnandi died during treatment, the accused escaped and efforts are being made to arrest him, said the officer.

Body of the victim was handed over to her family members after post mortem.
