63-yr-old woman held for smuggling forex worth Rs 96 lakh

A 63-year-old woman was arrested today by the customs for allegedly trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 96 lakh at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here.

The passenger was intercepted by the customs officials when she was about to board a flight to Dubai.

"A detailed personal search of the passenger resulted in the recovery of foreign currency amounting to USD 1,51,250 (equivalent to Rs 96.34 lakh).

"The foreign currency was concealed by the woman in the two casserole and tubes of the dragging handle of the trolley bags carried by her," a press release issued by the customs said.
 

The woman, who hails from Ulhasnagar in Maharashtra, was arrested and the foreign currency seized, it said.
