Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said 64 blocks in the state have been placed under the "dark zone" category due to their depleting groundwater levels.
If an area is included in the dark zone category, no boring can take place there without the approval of the authorities concerned.
Khattar said his government has undertaken various methods to encourage people to conserve forests and the groundwater table, a statement said.
He also urged educational institutions in the state to adopt nearby villages and provide information to farmers about latest techniques of farming and guidance to the youth for employment.
