65 evacuated, rains lash Himachal

Sixty-five people stuck at various places in Himachal Pradesh were evacuated today as moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of the state killing one person.

Helicopters dropped essential commodities for the stranded people and equipment for restoration of power supply at various places, officials said.

A 23-year-old youth was killed and two suffered burn injuries when lightning struck them near Jakhu temple in Shimla.

IAF and state choppers rescued 65 people stranded at various places for 11 days from Sangla, Jangi, Giabang and Pooh areas in Kinnaur district raising the total number of people evacuated to 1745.

The helicopters also dropped essential commodities and equipment for repair of damaged power houses and transmission lines.
 

Moderate to heavy showers lashed several parts of the state with Jogindernagar receiving 63 mm of rains, Shimla 20 and Jubbarhatti 17 mm.

The maximum temperatures dropped by a few notches after the rains.
