In yet another incident of crime against minors in the national capital, a 65-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in northwest Delhi's Swaroop Nagar area, police said today.

The incident came to light yesterday after the girl's mother spotted bite marks all over her body. Once taken into confidence, the girl broke down and narrated her ordeal, following which her mother called up police.

A police team rushed to the spot and the girl was taken for a medical examination. She was counselled by experts and soon the accused was identified, police said.

The perpetrator, Ghanshyam Das, who has his own grocery shop near the girl's residence in Swaroop Nagar locality, was arrested immediately. He has been booked for aggravated sexual assault under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act, DCP (Northwest) Vijay Singh said.

During counselling, the girl told police that Das used to lure her to his shop, where he assaulted her and she mentioned about two separate instances. During interrogation, Das also confessed to have assaulted the girl on May 10 and once around a week earlier, an official said.

While the minor's father is a driver and mother a housewife, Das himself is a father to three sons and a daughter who is married.

Das was produced before a court which sent him to 14-days' judicial custody, police said.
