67 bovines rescued, six smugglers arrested in J-K's Rajouri

Six alleged bovine smugglers were arrested and 67 animals rescued in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Sunday, a police official said.

Five bids to smuggle bovines from Nowshera, Budhal and Thanamandi areas of Rajouri to Kashmir Valley were foiled, the official said.

During an interception in Samote area, one Mohammad Nazir was arrested and 10 bovines being smuggled to Kashmir were rescued, they said.

In another incident, one Manzoor Hussain was arrested and 23 bovines were rescued from Nanga Thub in Budhal, police said.

In Thanamandi, a police team intercepted a vehicle and rescued 4 bovines, an official said. The team seized the vehicle and arrested its driver Mohammad Razaq, he said.

 

Fifteen bovines were rescued from Lamberi area. The driver of the vehicle in which the animals were being carried and the alleged smuggler managed to escape, police said.

Another 15 bovines were rescued from two vehicles at Rajal top on the Jammu-Rajouri highway and two drivers, Mohammad Wasim and Zahoor Ahmed, and a smuggler, identified as Mohammad Shabir, were arrested, the official said.

Cases have been registered against the accused and search is on for others involved in the smuggling bids, police said.
