A total of 68 power sub-stations have been planned and sanctioned to cater to the electricity needs of Chennai, Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan informed the state Assembly today.

While 41 new sub-stations have been sanctioned to be set up for Chennai under the 12th five year plan, another 27 sub-stations have been approved under the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme, he said in response to a query during questionhour.

While seven of the 68 sub-stations have been completed and are functioning, work is going on to set up the remaining, he added.

"Work would be completed in at least 24 of these sub-stations and (they) would start functioning within December 2014," he said, replying to legislator M K Ashok (Velachery).
