Seven persons,including four policemen, were injured in a clash between members of Popular Front of India and police on a National Highway near Kumariah Kovil in the district today.
Police said trouble broke out after PFI workers hurled bottles,sticks and pelted them with stones after being stopped from taking out a procession in violation of the stipulation to not wear uniforms or beat drums while celebrating the anniversary (of the PFI movement).
The PFI workers did not disperse even after police burst teargas shells, forcing them to lathicharge the workers, they said.
Additional police reinforcements had been sent to the area to bring the situation under control, police said.
