7 kg gold seized; three detained for interrogation

Gold valued at Rs 2.25 crore, allegedly smuggled by three persons who arrived from Kochi, was today seized by DRI officials at the airport here.

Acting on information, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials checked hand baggage of the three persons and found seven kg of gold in their possession, airport officials said.

They have been detained for interrogation.

Meanwhile, an Australian citizen was held for carrying a satellite phone, officials said.

Dubai-bound Victor Matofonov was found carrying the phone in his hand baggage late last night, officials said, adding, he was handed over to city police for investigation.
