7 killed, 9 injured in jeep-truck collision

Seven persons were today killed and nine others, including three children, sustained injuries when their jeep collided with a truck on Nashik-Pune highway near here, police said.

The accident took place when the jeep, that was returning from Jejuri shrine to Khed, was hit by a speeding truck proceeding to Pune from the opposite direction on the highway in Ahmednagar district, they said.

The victims belonged to Khed from the tribal-dominated Igatpuri taluka of Nashik district.

The deceased have been identified as Pandurang Waghe, Rohini Rajaram Waghe, Vanita Rajaram Waghe, Bhairav Shravan Padvale, Balu Vaibhav Waghe, Sarita Kalu Padvale and Asha Kalu Padvale.
 

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Pune, Sangamner and Alephata.

A search has been launched to nab the absconding truck driver, police said, adding further investigations were on.
