7 killed in separate incidents in Punjab

Seven persons were killed in three separate incidents at Ropar district, police said today.

Three people were feared to have been washed away in the waters of Bhakra Canal after their car hit an electricity poll and fell into the canal.

A truck driver noticed the car in the canal water near Roul Majra village on Ropar Kiratpur Sahib National Highway today.

Informed about the incident, police rushed to the spot where, during the investigation, it was revealed that three persons - Vivek Sharma alias Vicky, a resident of Ropar, Balwinder Singh and Karamjit Singh, from Railon Khurd village - were returning from Nuhon village near Ambuja Cement Factory in the car around 10 PM yesterday when the accident took place.
 

They all were property dealers, police said, adding that they recovered the bodies of Vivek and Balwinder from the car which was traced at a half kilometer away from the site of accident. However, the body of Karamjit was not found.

In another incident, three bodies were recovered from River Sutlej near Harsa Bela village.

The deceased have been identified as - Ranjit Singh and his two cousins Monu and Happy, all residents of Ganura village. They went missing two days ago after they had left home to collect fodder for their animals from the river bank, police said.

In the third incident, a truck driver died when his vehicle fell into the water pond created after mining of Sava river near village Nangran, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Surjit Singh of Samundrian village in the district.
