7 Maoists surrender in West Midnapore

Seven Maoists surrendered to the Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore and deposited arms.

Superintendent of Police, Bharati Ghosh said the seven had 48 cases pending against them.

The seven surrendered Maoists were - Saheb Murmu alias Jayanta, Saheb's wife Manasi Mahato, Dilip Singh, Malati Singh wife of Dilip, Samir Mahato, Baidyanath Mahato and Banamali Mahato.

Welcoming the surrendered extremists to the mainstream, Ghosh said they would be given rehabilitation package.

The surrendered activists deposited one AK-47 rifle and seven countrymade guns to the police.

The surrendered ultras, all residents of Jhargram sub-division, were allegedly involved in extortion, attacks and other criminal cases in past few years, another police source said.
