7 middlemen arrested from UP transport office

Seven persons, who were allegedly playing middlemen between applicants and officials at the Regional Transport Office here, have been arrested, police said today.

We conducted a raid at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in the city and arrested seven persons who were found to acquire driving licenses through fraudulent means, in connivance with the RTO officials, they said.

The raid was jointly conducted by DM Rajesh Kumar and City Magistrate Vijay Kumar yesterday.

We have been receiving a number of complaints of extortion at the RTO office, Rajesh Kumar said.

"The arrested accused have been identified as Mukesh Sharma, Krishnapal, Rajkumar, Jagveer Singh, Mukesh Kumar besides two others.
 

"Many other suspicious people managed to escape by climbing walls of the office building. However, those inside the rooms were apprehended as police closed the doors to foil any bid to escape," he said.

On the basis of a complaint by Regional Transport Officer Ranjeet Singh, an FIR has been registered with the Refinery police station against the accused, the DM added.
