The Delhi High Court today pulled up the city police over its inability to identify the person, who had allegedly raped a seven-year-old girl in a municipal school in 2013.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw came down on the police after they informed it that the culprit could not be traced, though investigation was going on in the case.
"Even after two years of investigation, how can you say that you did not find anyone. How is this possible that a seven-year-old child was raped and you found no accused till date?"
"It may be teachers or some staff of the school. Maybe the school is conniving. Why it is so difficult to trace a person," the court asked the police.
It further said that it is not a street that anyone picked her (the minor) up and later raped her.
Annoyed over the police status report, the court transferred further investigation into the case to the Crime Branch.
On February 28, 2013, a Class II girl was raped inside the Mongolpuri school of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
The police on March 1, 2013 had lodged a case after the girl's mother approached them.
As per the police the accused had raped her during lunch break. The girl claimed the rapist threatened to kill her and throw her in a gutter if she told anyone about the incident.
The girl disclosed the incident to her mother, after which a complaint was filed with police.
Police had prepared a sketch of the accused with the help of the child, but no one could be arrested as she could not identify her attacker.
The high court had taken suo motu cognisance after the girl's mother had written a letter to the Chief Justice seeking direction to the Delhi government and Delhi Police to find the accused man.
