A local court today sentenced a 70-year-old man to three years imprisonment for harassing a woman four years ago.

Jeyaraj, working as a manager in a place of worship at Rathinapuri, was booked for sexually abusing a woman staff on March 3, 2012.

Cases had been registered against him under IPC section 376 (rape) and 4 of Tamil Nadu Women Harassment act, as he allegedly sexually exploited the 30-year-old woman, many times by threatening to dismiss her.

As the rape charge could not be proved beyond doubt, the Mahila Court acquitted him of rape charges and convicted him for harassing the woman.

Besides sentencing him to three years of imprisonment, the court ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
