A 70-year-old lady was murdered allegedly by her son this evening in the southern part of the city, the police said.
Pratima Bag (70) of Shyamsundar Pally in Parnasree died when her son Anupam Bag (42), whom local residents stated to be mentally unstable, hit her with an iron rod this evening, they said.
Anupam has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime was also recovered.
"The incident happened at around 5 PM today when Anupam assaulted his mother Pratima by an iron rod," a Kolkata Police officer said adding a local boy Subhajit Mondal (8), who was present there, was also badly hit.
"Both of them received grievous injuries and were rushed to a local hospital where Pratima was declared brought dead, while the boy is undergoing treatment.
