The death toll in heavy rains in northwest Pakistan and in PoK during the weekend has reached 71, officials said today.

Heavy rains started on Saturday night, wreaking havoc in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltisitan (GB) regions.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that the 71 people have been killed and 53 injured while 370 houses were destroyed.

48 people were killed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 15 in Gilgit-Baltisitan and eight in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," the NDMA said.

Ten more people were found dead in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province after the weekend downpour triggered landslides and collapsed the roofs of dozens of houses.

Those killed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa also include more than two dozen hit by a landslide in mountainous Kohistan district.

Earlier, officials said on Sunday that 57 people were killed in the torrential rains which triggered landslides.
