Seventy-one village youths, including six women, today joined the service of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited.
The new appointees, who belong to Soloda village of Talcher in coal-rich Angul district of Odisha, were welcomed at a ceremony organised at Hingula Area of MCL, a company release said.
Welcoming the new recruits to MCL by providing safety helmets, General Manager of Hingula Area Kalicharan Khuntia said the new coal miners will add to the strength of Coal India in general and Hingula Area of MCL in particular.

Known for its attractive compensation package to land-losers, MCL has provided employment to over 12,000 families of land-loosers in Angul, Jharsuguda and Sundergarh district of Odisha, the release said.
The Hingula Area has offered 165 employments from eligible families of which 71 have completed all formalities of joining the service, including mandatory fitness test, and have received posting orders, it said.
The company, which contributes around 25 per cent to the total coal production of Coal India, supplied a record 143 million tonnes of dry fuel to consumers, majority of which includes thermal power plants, the release said.
