72 Delhi Police stations operate from temporary structures

The Delhi Police, whose stations have been ranked among the best in Asia in a global survey, is struggling to find a roof of its own with 72 of them being operated from porta cabins, tents and private houses.

According to report prepared by the Delhi Police, as many as 16 police stations are currnetly running from tents and porta cabins while its 14 police stations are operating from rented accomodations in the national Capital.

Report also showed that 109 police stations are being run in the regular buildings and 21 police stations are under construction.

"Around 35 police stations have not been allotted any land and the construction of 16 police stations are yet to start," report stated.
 

Police stations, which are being operated from temporary structures inlcude: Dabri, Burari, Kapashere, IGI Airport, DBG Road, Badarpur, Maurice Nagar, Special Cell, Sangam Vihar, Preet Vihar, Jaitpur, Kotla Mubarakpur, New Delhi Railway stations, Sarai Rohila Railway station, H N Din Railway station and Jamia Nagar.

Interestingly, the construction of Crime Branch's station, for which land was allotted in Nehru Place in 1982, is yet to start.

Similarly, construction work is yet to begin for New Friends Colony police station for which land was allotted in 1999.

If go by each district, there are 11 police stations running in regular buildings in East Delhi, followed by 11 police stations in north district, 10 stations in west district.

Police stations, which are running on rented accomodations are: Gokulpuri, Swaroop Nagar, Amar Vihar, Chhawala, Ranhola, Bhalswa Dairy, Fathepuri Beri, Nihar Vihar, Sonia Vihar, Zafrabad, Karawal Nagar, Bharat Nagar, Shahbad Dairy and Baba Haridas Nagar.
