72 incidents of communal violence reported in Jan 2015

A total of 72 incidents of communal violence have been reported in the country in January this year in which 11 people were killed and 218 others injured, Lok Sabha was informed today.

Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said in 2014, there were 644 incidents of communal violence in the country in which 95 people lost their lives and 1,921 others suffered injuries.

In 2013, as many as 823 such incidents of communal violence were reported in which 133 people were killed and 2,269 others injured.

Last year, the majority of incidents have taken place in Uttar Pradesh (133 incidents), followed by Maharashtra (97), Gujarat (74), Karnataka (73), Rajasthan (72), Bihar (61) and Madhya Pradesh (56).
