Altogether 74 bikers from different parts of the country are competing in the Nagaland Adventure Club (NAC) Open Supercross under the banner of Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) at the Local Ground here.
This is the first ever supercross event organised in the State under FMSCI and has competitors from Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Haryana, Bengaluru, Delhi and Nagaland.
Out of the 74 bikers, 32 are competing in Novice category, 21 in Open, 10 in Local and 11 in Expert.
The qualifying rounds of the four categories are being held today while the final rounds will be held tomorrow.
NAC president Paul Rutsa said that the competition is exclusively featuring motor-cycle racing in closed arenas with artificial dirt tracks and obstacles.
The four different categories of the race are conducted under FMSCI rules with stewards from the Federation officiating the competition.
Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources and Sports, Music Task Force and State Lotteries Khriehu Leizietsu flagging off the competition said sports plays an important role in nation building, social cohesion and a healthy lifestyle.
"A true athlete can only reach his limit and even go beyond those limits only if he possesses good technical skills and physical fitness," he said.
