The Sikkim state government has reduced trade license and hawker license fees by 75 per cent on for the local unemployed youth.

Aimed at encouraging youths in business and commercial enterprises, the "discount" would be available over the next few months, special secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department (UD&HD), L B Chettri said today.

The UD&HD, through a notification issued on February 26 last, had amended the Sikkim Trade License and Miscellaneous Provision Rules-2011, notifying "the trade license fee and hawker licence fee in respect of the local unemployed youth in the items enumerated in Schedule I, II and III shall be 75 per cent less."

The decision to reduce the trade license and hawker license fees for local unemployed youth has ensured that many youths in the state now have an opportunity to make a living in a society where employment opportunities in the government sector was limited, Chettri said.

"Ours is a consumer state which is why we have limitations in state government employment opportunities. "However, the state government has notified the reduction in fees for obtaining license to only local unemployed youths who have to fulfil the requirements of the notification," he added.
