The Railway Ministry has decided to depute Station Directors at 75 top stations across the country as part of its initiative to improve passenger experience.
A Station Director will be in-charge of the entire railway station and will ensure prompt service to customers, maintaining cleanliness, efficient ticketing, punctuality of trains, grievance redressal, among others, the ministry said in a release.
The officer will also be part of any decision making process initiated by the ministry concerning his railway station, like traffic facility, passenger amenities and commercial advertisements, it said.

Officers to be posted as Station Directors will be selected from among the personnel of the Traffic Department of Railways and no additional posts will be created, the release said.
To begin with, 12 out of 75 stations in the A-1 category have been selected to get a Director. These include Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mumbai Central, Delhi, New Delhi, Secunderabad, Chennai Central, Bengaluru City, Howrah, Sealdah, Ahmedabad and Jaipur.
The remaining 63 stations will get Station Directors by the end of this year.
