75-yr-old man killed in fire in Srinagar

An elderly man was killed and over a dozen houses were charred in a major fire that broke out this morning in Dalgate area of the city, officials said.

The fire broke out in a house in congested Buchwara locality of Dalgate and quickly spread to the adjoining houses, a Fire and Emergency Services official said.

He said the fire was doused after intense fire fighting operation which lasted for several hours.

Later, the body of 75-year-old Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh was recovered from the charred remains of one of the houses, the official said.

Sheikh was a resident of Tral and had come here to meet his relatives.
 

Police has registered a case in connection with the incident and and investigation is on ascertain the cause of the fire, he said.
