77 people killed in various incidents in BTAD area this year

77 people have been killed in various incidents in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts this year, Assam Legislative Assembly was informed today.

On behalf of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who holds the Home portfolio, Environment and Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain said in a written reply that 74 people were killed by terrorist organisations and three lost their lives in other incidents.

Of these, 46 persons were killed by NDFB(S) militants in May in Kokrajhar and Baksa districts of BTAD, the Minister replied in a query by AIUDF MLA Abdur Rahim Khan.

A total of Rs 8 lakh have been paid against each of those dead persons that includes Rs 3 lakh from the Centre.
 

In this clash, 59 families in Baksa became homeless after their houses were burnt to ashes.

During 2014 in BTAD, a total of 59 cases have been registered and 39 persons were arrested, while 30 others are absconding till now.

Besides, 344 illegal arms have been seized in BTAD since 2012, Hussain said while replying to a query by AIUDF MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed during the Question Hour.

Of these, 289 were seized from different extremist organisations and 55 from miscreants, the Minister said.

The recovery of arms includes 13 AK-47 rifles, 9 AK-56 rifles, 80 9 mm pistols, 74 7.65 mm pistols and 19 SBBL guns.
