A 78-year-old retired government employee was today killed by unidentified persons in his house at Rajouri Garden here, police said.

The incident took place when Jugal Kishore, a retired Central Public Works Department employee, was alone at home, they said.

The assailants entered the house after his wife left to buy vegetables. She found him with his throat slit when she returned and informed the police, they said.

Kishore and his wife were the only occupants of the house. One of their sons lives in nearby Kirti Nagar, the other in Noida and another in Goa, police said.

Police are probing all angles, including that of personal enmity and robbery.

They said there were no signs of forced entry and that the couple did not keep too many valuables at the house.

It is being probed whether any cash or valuables are missing.

A part-time maid was employed at the couple's residence and she is being questioned.

Forensic teams have collected fingerprints from the spot.

Kishore was posted in Chandigarh and had retired 18 years ago.
