Sleuths of Mizoram's Excise and Narcotics department seized huge quantity of gold, worth more than Rs 2 crore, here and arrested two persons in this connection, an official said today.
The Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Excise and Narcotics department seized 49 gold biscuits weighing 8.147 kilogram here yesterday and arrested two persons who were handed over to the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Aizawl, the official said.
The Anti-Narcotic Squad also seized 207 grams of heroin near here yesterday and arrested five persons in this connection, Department spokesman Peter Zohmingthanga said.
He said that the seized contraband was worth around Rs eight lakh in the local market and was reportedly smuggled from Myanmar.
The five accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, he added.
