8,500 tonnes of solid waste generated daily in Delhi

Delhi, which is the largest municipal solid waste producer in the country, generates around 8,500 tonnes of solid waste daily.

The figure has come out in the Economic Survey presented by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in Delhi Assembly today.

The report said 500-600 MGD (Million Gallon Daily) sewage is also generated in the city each day.

It said the city also produces around 10 metric tonnes of bio-medical waste daily while a total of 583 metric tonnes of plastic waste is generated every year.

The economic survey identified vehicular exhaust as main source of air pollution and said number of vehicles registered in Delhi has increased from Rs 24.32 lakh in 1994-95 to more than 74 lakh in March 2012.
